Chapter 13
The Report
Cali wandered the corridors of the secret library with Dora in a daze. He wished he had a magical talent where he could memorize all the books, by just looking at them once from their cover.
“Secrets of the portal”
“Mother Nature and Kittelfdora”
All these books must have been containing the answers to every question that had kept Cali’s mind busy for years.
But there was not a single book on Artemis.
They had gone through all the shelves and they just couldn’t find it.
Cali was disappointed.
“Don’t feel low just yet” Dora said when she saw Cali’s grim face.
“Let’s have a look at the weekly newsletter catalog”
“What’s that?” asked Cali.
“The delegation is obliged to report to the royal family every week. They are kept in a separate place. We’ll find the right number in the catalog”
Through a long, dimly lit hallway, Dora and Cali arrived in a medium-sized stone room. On the shelves were stacks of papers that looked like magazines, and in the center was a single table with a desk and a lamp. Dora started looking at the letter A in the card catalog on the table.
Cali was a little surprised by the reversal of roles. Until now, he had always perceived Dora as an apprentice who knew nothing, not as a member of the royal court. Now here was a confident Princess who knew what she was doing .
“Oh, I found it” said Dora. “The Artemis; Special Issue”.
Drombis made his way to the library. He was a bit grumpy and in a bad mood because he hadn’t had lunch yet. He had recently put on weight and his belly was slightly prominent. This did not stop him from eating a lot.
He sneezed constantly among the dusty shelves of the library, and the dark corridors made him restless.
He entered the Library and opened the door to the private compartment. Normally the light would turn on by itself, but not this time.
“The Great Kittelfdora but no one thinks of changing a light bulb” he muttered.
Dora started reading.
“ARTEMIS: Former Kittlefdora female agent. Married with one child. In addition to the abilities of ordinary Kittelfdora agents, she has the ability to read minds, become invisible, see through walls, move objects and see the future. She’s the founder of the spy academy.”
“Wooowww. She’s pretty cool” she said, then continued reading.
“Distinctive features. Tricolor. Black spot on the end of her right leg.”
Turning to the next page, Dora was surprised. The pages were blank. With great disappointment and astonishment , she turned to other pages, but in vain. The all-white blank pages, combined with the light of the study lamp, illuminated Dora’s puzzled face.
“So where’s the rest of it? The catalog said it was 30 pages????!!!!”
“Do you know what that means, Cali?”
But Cali was not listening to her. He was collapsed in his seat. In his brain, flashes of the past came and went for seconds and then disappeared. A tri-colored cat, looking at him.
“Cali, come to me, Cali.” Then immediately another image… The same tri-colored cat who was practicing martial arts. And when he glanced at her leg, he saw it. The black spot.
It was Artemis. So where did these memories come from?
Dora was lost in her own bewilderment. “That means someone has broken into the Royal Library. But how?”
Just then there was a thud from the corridor, followed by a cat meowing in pain.
“Come on! Come on!” Dora called to Cali.
“We have to go now. If they find out I let you in here, it’s over.” Dora took Cali’s hand, whose expression was still clearly confused.
She pulled forward and closed the three wooden book-shaped levchas under one of the shelves with the stacks of papers.
The shelf led to a secret passage. They entered through it. The shelf closed by itself again.
Dora and Cali continued to run down the corridor with all their might.
